The Washington Warriors are leveling up the city this weekend. The premiere D.C. AAU program, launched just three years ago by partners Andre Hopson, Antoine Williams, and Derrick Washington, is returning with its next big move: the inaugural Capital City National Showcase. The new event is shining a major spotlight on elite high school hoopers and bringing national basketball energy straight to the heart of the District.

From the start, the Washington Warriors have been intentional about their mission. Built as a nonprofit dedicated to expanding opportunities for young athletes in D.C., the program provides top-tier training, mentorship, skills camps, and a real pathway toward collegiate and professional play. With coaching leaders like Washington, Kerwin Porter, and Doug Dormu steering the ship, the Warriors have become known for developing talent while investing deeply in community and holistic growth.

Now, the Capital City National Showcase marks the next evolution of that vision. Curated by entertainment mogul Andre Hopson, also known as Dre The Mayor, legendary D.C. rapper Antoine Williams, known as Fatz DaBigFella, and longtime coach Derrick Washington, the showcase is a major platform designed to elevate youth athletes on a national stage.

Reflecting on the journey in a post to social media, Hopson shared, “I’m rarely the one behind the mic or in front of the camera on a press run, so this was different for me lol. Normally we pushing artists, players, products, and building other people’s dreams. My brothers @dabigfella and @coachducci asked me to step into the sports space 3 years ago. We launched @washwarriorsbball and haven’t looked back.”

He went on to emphasize the importance of this moment for the city, adding, “@capitalcitynationalshowcase is the next evolution in our journey and it kicks off tomorrow. I hope to see the whole city out to celebrate with us. We’re just providing platforms for the youth to be given the light they deserve and we didn’t have. We want the entire DMV to be able to enjoy it, not a select few.”

With powerhouse programs like Sierra Canyon flying in from Los Angeles and local giants such as Bishop McNamara, Archbishop Carroll, Bishop O’Connell, and DeMatha representing the DMV, the showcase is bringing together some of the best talent in the country. The schedule is loaded with high-energy matchups, including Coolidge High School defending home court and national teams battling it out for bragging rights.

The games tip off Friday, December 5th, and continue through Saturday, December 6th, with back-to-back competition featuring programs from Maryland, Virginia, D.C., North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and California. From Phoenix Montessori vs. Springdale Prep to the highly anticipated Bishop McNamara vs. Sierra Canyon matchup, every game is set to deliver next-level action.

For Hopson, Williams, and Washington, this showcase is bigger than basketball. It’s about access, exposure, and creating the kind of opportunities they wished existed when they were coming up. It’s about amplifying youth talent and giving the entire DMV community something to rally around.

The Capital City National Showcase is officially tipping off a new era for high school hoops in Washington, D.C. Whether you love the sport, the culture, or the pure energy of seeing the city win, this is where you want to be.
