Ready for Another Round? Another Winter Storm Could Impact the DMV

The DMV area is still recovering from Winter Storm Ferm, which brought significant snowfall across the region. Some communities reported more than ten inches of snow, and the lingering cold temperatures throughout the week have made it difficult for snow and ice to melt. As a result, local officials have urged residents to limit travel, while school systems have announced closures and delays as road crews continue working to clear and treat major routes.

With the region still dealing with the aftermath of the storm, many are now asking whether another round of winter weather could be on the way. Forecast models are beginning to show the possibility of a new system that could impact the DMV area over the weekend.

At this time, meteorologists say the threat appears to be minimal, with early projections indicating light snowfall if the system moves through as currently expected. However, forecasters caution that it is still too early to determine the exact path or strength of the storm. Similar to last week’s early outlook, more accurate details will likely emerge as the potential system draws closer.

The European forecast model suggests that the DMV could be brushed by the outer edge of a stronger storm system. If that scenario holds, the region may only see light snow. A shift in the storm’s track, however, could result in a more direct impact and increased snowfall totals. Weather experts continue to monitor these developments closely and advise residents to stay informed as updated forecasts are released.

Meanwhile, infrastructure challenges remain a concern following Winter Storm Ferm. Montgomery County and Prince George’s County officials have asked residents to conserve water after multiple water main breaks were reported across the area. Crews are facing difficulties locating and repairing damaged pipes due to frozen ground, snow, and ice.

Officials warn that continued high water usage could strain the system and increase the risk of a boil water advisory. Residents are being encouraged to limit nonessential water use while repair crews work to restore service under challenging weather conditions. The combination of persistent cold temperatures and potential additional snowfall could further complicate recovery efforts in the days ahead.
